Final Assessment Revisited

While waiting for my FA results (five weeks and 1 day), I came across a very interesting post on AO:

What's the point of the 4-day deadline for the FA, just to annoy us? Can't anybody just buy themselves whatever kind of extension they want by not turning anything in the first time and then re-registering once they're done working on it?

The point of not turning anything in, of course, is so the person doesn't have to wait 7 weeks.

I don't really mind the 4-day deadline. Just the part where anybody can buy themselves an extension. I don't care for that part at all, but can anybody tell me how it isn't true?

That's certainly a very interesting view that did not dawn on me; it's probably because I'm anal about money. Of course, this requires some inside knowledge of how the FA works exactly. Anyways, this problem can be remedied easily by increasing the pool of quality FA assignments--I think the current FA is quite well designed and written.

Stop being so lazy SOA.
