Just when I thought my week wouldn't get anymore exciting. First of all there was a big car crash outside my office which mangled up the front of an Echo completely, and now THIS. I wasn't looking forward to today because I knew I wasn't going to get it done on time and I would have to lose a weekend of studying.
So I got to my office and saw the ceiling all bulged out and it was dripping water on to the carpet. There was already a pretty big wet spot (60cm in diameter maybe?) when I saw it so it must've been going on for a few hours. It was only 8 or so I decided to wait before I call somebody about it, but someone else noticed it before I remembered. Haha I was surprised it took that long actually...
So it went drip, drip, drip while I worked on my thing. Man I feel bad for the plumber guy that came in. The guy he was working with can't speak English to save his life; haha maybe this whole thing got started because of it. Anyways I heard the plumber said, "...I'm not sure where the water is gonna go...," and then GUSH!!! Water started pouring out from the ceiling; the guy was swearing and shit. When I saw droplets on my monitor and I turned to see that my papers were all soaked, I decided to walk alway from my cubical.
"GET ME A FLAT HEAD SCREW DRIVER!!! NOT THIS, A FLAT HEAD?!??!" As I watched, the carpet reached its absorption limit and water began accumulating. Shit! I quickly jumped back in, hit ctrl-s and held the power button long enough for my damn machine sitting on the carpet to shut down. I grabbed my bag up from the floor and put it on to my desk, shoved my iPod into the drawer, and covered up the financial statements with a calendar. By now there is a crowd gathering and I was trapped in the corner by the waterfall. The guy who can't speak English had ran off to try to shut off the water and plumber guy was wrestling with whatever beast that's in the ceiling while yelling "FUCK!!! YOU SON OF A BITCH!!! SOMEONE GOT A PHONE!?! GET ME A FLAT HEAD SCREWDRIVER!!!" The guy was completly drenched and the ladder he was standing on didn't look too stable; he was leaning well into the ceiling and was putting all of his weight on one corner of the top step. By now the water is flowing towards the filing cabinets.
We moved some computers up to higher ground and then someone pulled the fire alarm so we evacuated the building. From what I heard, the water soaked all the way through to the first floor and someone slipped on the way out and got injured as well. Ugh.
And of course, was it really just water? Some got my lip and it tasted pretty bitter. Moreover, when I got back to my desk, my soaked papers had a brown tint to them. On the other hand, the water didn't smell funny at all and it was also quite clear. Anyways, enough speculating and I should just go get a shower.
Oh yeah, I got my VSO pass today!
